As explained in our previous article, which detailed the electoral roll and the procedure for renewing the governing bodies, the electoral process of the Protected Designation of Origin Mahón-Menorca Regulatory Council has now reached its final stage with the official designation of its new leadership.

On 15 December 2025, the newly elected Plenary Board of the Regulatory Council was formally constituted, following the electoral process approved and convened by the Island Council of Menorca and published in the Official Gazette. During that same session, and in accordance with Decree 139/2002, the Plenary proposed the candidates for the positions of President and Vice-President, without the requirement for them to be members of the Council.

The following day, on 16 December 2025, the Executive Councillor for Economy and General Services of the Island Council of Menorca formally confirmed the appointments. By official resolution, Julio Ramón de Olives Fernández was appointed President of the D.O.P. Mahón-Menorca Regulatory Council, and Bartolomé Mercadal Muntaner was appointed Vice-President.

These designations bring to a close a regulated, transparent process fully aligned with current legislation, ensuring the proper governance of the body responsible for safeguarding the quality, origin and reputation of Mahón-Menorca cheese. This new stage begins with a clear commitment to strengthening the Protected Designation of Origin, supporting producers and cheesemakers, and continuing to promote one of Menorca’s most emblematic products both locally and internationally.
